Are you a high school student wondering what comes after graduation? The thought of stepping into the real world can be scary, especially when traditional paths like college might not feel right for you. If you're seeking a practical, rewarding career that doesn’t require a four-year degree, you’ve come to the right place.

Our Construction Career Preparation Program offers a unique blend of training and certifications that open doors to stable, well-paying jobs in the construction industry. In this blog, we'll explore how this program equips you with the skills you need to thrive and why it might be the right path forward for you.

The path to a fulfilling career after high school can often seem clouded with uncertainty. Yet, for students at Career Prep, the horizon is not only clear but promising. Through the innovative Construction Career Preparation Program, students are not just working towards a high school diploma; they are stepping confidently into the workforce with skills that promise a stable and rewarding future.

A Foundation for Success

The construction industry is booming, with a high demand for skilled laborers. This sector offers more than just job opportunities—it offers careers where hard work and dedication are visibly rewarded. The Construction Career Preparation Program at Career Prep equips students with vital skills, making them not just participants in this growth sector but pioneers of their own future.

All of the below credentials, training, and skills can be completed while still attending your regular high school classes. This means that you can finish high school and hit the ground running in your new career, getting a head start in the workforce.

Certifications That Count

The program isn’t just about learning; it’s about earning. Students gain valuable industry-recognized credentials that speak volumes in the job market. Here’s how Career Prep is paving the way for its students:

Leadership Excellence

Using the Franks Research Group curriculum, students learn leadership and employability skills that transcend the construction site. This training molds them into professionals who are ready to lead teams and manage projects effectively.

NCCER Core

The core program of the National Center for Construction Education & Research provides a robust foundation in construction and maintenance. Certified instructors ensure that students are well-versed in industry standards, making them prime candidates for various roles immediately after graduation.

Forklift Certification

With high-fidelity forklift training simulators known as 3D Forklift, students learn in a risk-free environment using the latest technology guided by OSHA guidelines. This certification is about precision and safety, preparing students for responsible roles in logistics and site management. This two-point credential is recognized in the industry and would be relevant in any construction organization.
It is important to note that one of the major causes of accidents is equipment-related. This is part of the reason we urge our students to get forklift certified so that they can know how to operate large equipment like a forklift and know how to prevent injuries when working near forklifts.

Safety Certifications

Career Prep places special emphasis on their training related to safety and health. The construction industry has many fantastic benefits like good compensation and that it does not require formal education to begin to make a respectable living. However, some sources suggest that 1 in 10 construction workers are injured every year. For this reason, Career Prep wants to ensure that students are prepared to have a long and fruitful career. These are some of the safety-related training and certifications offered by Career Prep.

3M Worker Health & Safety Awareness

This segment covers essential safety measures, from respiratory to hearing and visual protection. Each topic is crucial for a career in construction, ensuring that students are prepared to work safely and sustainably. This program has three credentials which are:

  • Respiratory Hazards
  • Hearing Hazards
  • Head, Eye, & Face Hazards

These are trainings that everyone in the industry must complete regardless, this gives you a benefit of starting your career with some context of how to stay safe in the industry.

CPR/First Aid

Understanding the basics of first aid and CPR is crucial in any field but particularly in construction, where safety is paramount. This certification by the American Red Cross is not just a line on a resume—it's a lifeline in critical situations.

CPR and First Aid are skills that are relevant in any industry. These are the fundamental skills for safety anywhere. CPR is often thought of as being only relevant for drowning victims but it is used in any emergency situation.

OSHA-10/30

Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards is critical. Students leave the program knowing they can uphold the highest safety standards, making them invaluable to any employer. Career Prep offers both a 10 hour and a 30 hour certification which can earn you either a 1 or 3 point credential that is recognized in the construction industry.

More Than Just Skills

The program's benefits extend beyond certifications. Students who enroll in the Construction Career Preparation Program gain more than skills—they gain confidence. They see the immediate results of their work, feel the camaraderie of teamwork, and learn the responsibilities of leadership.
